Do any of the following statements sound familiar?

Once a secretary always a secretary!

I have been in my job so long and there is no where else for me to go?

I will put up with my job because I am too old to learn!

I am only a secretary – what else can I do?

I have got all my skills and knowledge from experience and have no qualifications – where can I go to?

I am in a rut – where to now!

If you said ‘yes’ to any of the above, there is good news!

The secretarial profession has grown in leaps and bounds over the last couple of years and in order to keep up with the changing trends in the workplace, it is necessary for secretaries / office professionals to keep abreast with the changes by doing continuous learning.  By building up your skills and knowledge, you will find that there are many more opportunities in the workplace for you to aspire to.

Why attend the ICAP Indaba?

The presenters at the ICAP Indaba are all ladies who started their careers out as secretaries and who have kept abreast with the times through continuous learning and widened their areas of expertise!  The presenters are all graduates of ICAP i.e. they have completed the Certified Administrative Professional examinations and will be talking on their journey through their working career and their current role.  The speakers will be Charmaine Stonehouse CAP – secretary turned ISO Manager (Quality Management) at INCE;  Rosely van der Merwe CAP – PA who got involved with projects and is responsible for the Corporate Social Responsibility programme at Midas; Rosemary Mofolo CAP – secretary who is now involved with project management at the City of Johannesburg and Amanda Johnson CAP – dental hygienist to Executive Assistant and Divisional Assistant Functional Coordinator at Ericcson, which involves coordinating the Divisional Assistants for the Market Unit  ‘Sub-Sahara’ which includes an impressive 43 countries.
