Records management is often thought of as an unnecessary or low priority administrative task, but, in fact, records management is the responsibility of all individuals within an organization. Since 2005, records management has become increasingly important for organizations due to new compliance regulations and statutes. While government, legal, financial and healthcare entities have a strong history of records management, general record-keeping of corporate records has been poorly standardized and implemented. Worldwide scandals at companies such as Enron and Arthur Andersen, have renewed interest in corporate records compliance, litigation preparedness and other issues.
